Writing Prompt No. 05
All about the animals
Granted, this prompt is a strange one. Please take an animal call and translate it, whether it is the neighbour's dog barking, the birds singing in the morning, or the crickets chirping in the distance. What are they calling out for? What are they feeling? This doesn’t necessarily need to be dialogue-heavy; instead, it details what the call means.
This can be written through any medium. If two animals are conversing, that could lend itself to a screenplay of mostly dialogue. The purpose, as always, is to get you thinking a little differently and exploring something new. I repeat this frequently because it is just as vital now as it was then: don’t criticize yourself too harshly. Just explore, try new techniques, take risks, and if the writing doesn’t come out as desired, then that’s okay because nobody else has to see it but you. You can also edit as many times as you want and shape the piece. If you stumble onto a good idea but struggle to execute it into the vision you had, I assure you that, with patience, it will fall into place. First, you have to get the idea out of your head, so write and have fun. Nobody is judging you; you compete with nobody, and every word you write makes you a better writer.
The lone bird chirps
A cry for help
to be pulled from
the clutches
of loneliness.
When your own wings
can no longer carry you,
the sky becomes a curse.
The bird whispers to itself
‘If I am drowning
and have forgotten
how to swim
what difference
is it to an ocean?’
I quite like this poem; I think it has some work to do to become fully realised, but overall, this is how it sounds to me sometimes. The length of your piece is not essential either. It can be long or short. I cannot wait to see what you do with this.
Keep Kind & Stay true Woofenberrys

A howling mournful
Sound filling up the forest
Wolves call each other
