I was half-way through a PhD in creative writing when ChatGPT came along - and my piece just happened to be about training one's virtual representation that will live on after one dies. So I had a blast practicing what I was writing about. When voice interaction was enabled, I was able to have fluid conversations on my daily walks about some of the research I was engaging. The best use of these tools, for me, is that it can play the role of a challenging coach - someone who can ask tough questions and interrogate one's blind spots. I quickly learned to open each conversation with a quick prompt: I don't want any of your ideas. I only want you to ask me one question at a time to challenge my thinking. My partner and my supervisors were the core sources of engagement, but AI is available 24x7.
